Skykomish River Description

The Skykomish River flows west out of the Cascades and into Puget Sound through Monroe. It joins the Snoqualmie to form the Snohomish River and flows through Everett into the Sound.

The Skykomish holds both hatchery summer and winter Steelhead as well as a late wild winter steelhead run that is protected with closures. The Skykomish is a designated wild and scenic river.

The river runs cold and clear throughout the winter unless the freezing level in the Cascades rises above 3000 feet. The mean flow is 4000 cfs.

Hatches are not relevant to the catching of winter steelhead.

Techniques & Tips

Swing your flies through steelhead “walking speed” holding water.
