How to fish Barrett Lake
Barrett Lake’s 800 acres, is close to Tecate, east of San Diego. Assuming you are in  San Diego take I- 8 east for about 30 miles to Japutai Road and drive south  5.6 miles. Hang a  left on Lyons Valley Road and drive 6  miles, and go past milepost 12. You will see a gate without any identification.
You will arrive  an unsigned entrance gate. You will need to present a permit to the (obtained on line)  ranger. This lake has lots of special rules- it’s reservation only through Ticket Master-  but it is one of the finest in the state, its worth the special regulations, it also has monster bluegill and crappie. Siting off the road invisible to passing traffic, it was unfished for many years until 1994.
You should call  (619-465-FISH) to get updated on everything but for now no bait, only artificials, barbless hooks, catch and release, and the lake is only open Saturday and Sunday April thru September.
There is no boat ramp, and  forget about trailering your own, no motored boats are permitted. You can rent one there, our use a float tube or kayak…Waders must be worn at all times if floating or wading
