Lower Otay Lake South of San Diego near Chula Vista.  A boat launch,  boat rentals,  baita nd tackle and limited groceries are  available at the lake.  For more information, San Diego Water Department,  (619) 668-2050.   The lake is open year round.
Fishing Lower Otay Lake: This is one of the premier bass lake in California, with up plus 15 pounders….and 5 pound averages common per string. Otay is about 1000 acres with lots of habitat for baitfish and crawdads. The key to growth is the shad in the lake as forage for the bass.
Both of the lakes two arms are good for bass but our fishing map shows the   Otay arm is the  better area as it warms up sooner than the Harvey arm. It is the place to be in early spring or late winter. in the fall, cast plastic  worms around the tules. But the most successful anglers use bait: shiners or crawdads, and best lures are rapalas and shad raps.
Locals know if you have a fish finder,  locate the bait fish schools and cast into them, you will be rewarded with some very impressive fish.
Huge catfish are in this lake and the crappie fishing is very good.
