Techniques and How to fish the Umpqua:

The North Umpqua’s has a fly fishing section has large boulders and basalt drop offs. Long casts are often needed, a Spey rod here is best, using big flies.
Check for some interesting regulations. No strike indicators, no weight on the fly or leader June to September.
Try dry flies for  summer fish. However, change to a heavy wet line large leech if fish not rising to the dry fly.
It has been said winter or spring fish do not respond to dries even if conditions are summer like. February is when fishing gets good, reaching its zenith in March.
Wet lines should be sinking shooting heads, tapered tips. Large wet flies, leeches, shrimp patterns are the best choices here.
