How to Fish Lake Havasu
This 45 mile Long lake sparkles amidst the barren landscape. Due to the many skiers and speedboaters, you will need a boat of your own to effectively fish Havasu. The Stripers are what most people are fate in Havasu but the winter time trout, catfish, bluegill and crappie is good, and no skiers. Or naked partiers, we report somewhat regrettably.
The best striper fishing is hard to locate, you need to communicate with the various resorts and tackle shops because the stripers migrate or go deep depending on the time of the year.
The latter part of March through May the fish are in migration mode, so this is the most productive time for these aggressive fish. Some people participate in chumming while most folks attack with largemouth bass tactic, jigs and minnow imitations like Rapalas, Hair Raiser jigs, or anything with a worm tail.
Early in the migration, you should go north through  Havasu City, checking Grass Island  and Skier’s Island. Later you can fish from shore as the lake narrows around Bullhead town and Davis Dam. Standard surf casting equipment will work well here.
Later in the summer, trolling  Rapalas is best at day break and the cooler times as night approaches.
But watch for diving gulls in late summer and fall that means stripers are feeding on baitfish on the surface, hit the spot carefully to not scare this fish and cast into them.
During the slow times, find some light breeze or current and get go down to 35 feet with a gob of anchovies or sardines and float along and enjoy the wildlife of the human variety.
In winter find trout in the extreme end around Bullhead City,  in the tailwaters below Davis Dam.  If you like crappie head to Topock Bay, see our fishing Map for more info. Also another crappie area is nearby, but just down stream from the I-40 highway bridge. Giant catfish also roam this area.
