We have some exclusive tips from an  an angler who know this lake like no one else. Eagle Lake’s General Store has weighed in an 11.4 and several  8- to l0-pounders, but has heard of ‘bows up  to 14 pounds  Then there’s “Dave”, last name withheld, who has  been fishing  the lake for 35 years, and  he caught  an unbelievable, but true, a  20-pounder-  the biggest fish reportedly to come out  of the lake.

He trolls  inflated night crawlers and flashers for his  big fish,  trolling extremely  slow. He  threads not one, but two, night crawlers on a  long shank, number 6 hook.   10-pound line and pyramid—type sink-  ers. And one more detail: a hypodermic needle that inflates the night crawlers, which keeps the worms off  the bottom so the fish can see them better.
Here is the key secret for success:  Starts out trolling slow, then kill the motor allowing  the night crawlers and flashers drop toward the bottom. Immediately  when the  bait hits the bottom, start  the engine  which raises the bait and drives the big  trout crazy!  See our Fishing Map for some excellent trolling patterns
Black  Leech trolling fly  can catch lots of  fish use  monofilament off  their spinning  rods with one split  shot, a troll the fly 110  feet behind the  boat. Ninety-percent  of the rainbows are caught while turning, so make sure to troll in small circles, not in a straight line.
Tip: lf trolling is not working,  move  towards the  shore and either still fish with night crawlers under a bobber, or throw Krocodiles,  Kastmasters or Rapalas and is most effective early in the morning when  rainbows are feeding, and it works best when there’s a little breeze and even  better with substantial cloud cover!  A little ripple on the water keeps them on the surface, when calm the trout dive deeper.
